Fire and Firemen

Fire and Firemen and Police and Rescue and everyone else turned up to a spectacular shopfront fire in  the main street of my town last Saturday. The fire which was started by faulty Christmas tree lights gutted three shops. The smoke was black and quite dramatic so when I saw it from my balcony I grabbed the camera and went there to get some shots. The whole block had been cordoned off. I felt a real stab of envy when Fire Photographers were allowed to go where I couldn't..

Just on a whim I sent them to the editorial desk of my local newspaper who said they would be considered. They ended up using an official Fire Brigade shot from within the shop. Disappointment!
But they did say they were good and to submit shots of future local events. I guess that's some validation.

Linking to James' Weekend Reflections 'cause the first shot has reflections in the floor (any excuse).
Have a happy weekend,

I've been to Paris. It is one of the world's great cities.

Yesterday's terrorist attacks could have been in London or New York or Sydney.
Why does anyone think terrorism will resolve anything?

Stay strong Paris. We're with you. xx

Sculpture by the Sea

Hello all,

Here in Sydney the annual Sculpture by the Sea has just wrapped up. This temporary exhibition of a number of sculptures extends along a famous sea side walk from Bondi Beach to Tmarama Sculpture by the Sea. It only lasts for three weeks and is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist event. I always wish it was on for longer, but I managed a day off to go see it. This was my favourite sculpture. This is a detail of faces sculpted into a charred hollow of a tree.

The news is on while I am posting this. More bombing and shooting and violence in Paris. I feel for them.. God help us all.
In an increasingly violent and unstable world art helps us to make the world make sense. It expresses who we are. Without freedom of expression what are we?
Stay safe.

Aliens Attack?

Haha No it's not high fashion aliens but an iPhone shot at the Collette Dinnigan exhibit at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum. I like the muted reflections of the lighting on the mannequins reflected by the mirrored floor.

Happy reflecting,

Sydney Zombie Walk

On the afternoon of Saturday the 31st in Sydney, normal people transformed into the undead and marched down Macquarie Street to the corner of the Botanical Gardens that overlooks the bridge and the Opera House. Don't be fooled - every kind of monster was there. Mwahoohahahaha and some of them , including myself had Caaaaameras.. They said it was for charity but who knows what walked amongst us....
